History of Carreras Bowls Club

Carreras Bowls Club was formed in 1935 as a section of the Carreras Social and Athletics Club (CSAC) which was situated with its own sports ground at Stanmore in Middlesex.

The first bowling green was accordingly at the Stanmore club ground, where the Bowls Club continued up to the outbreak of the War and picked up again after the War.

Welcome to Carreras Bowls Club

Carreras Bowls Club moved in the early 1960s to the new Carreras sports ground at Nevendon, Basildon as cigarette production was transferred to a new factory in Basildon. By 1978 the Club had joined the Basildon & District Lawn Bowls Association and also had became affiliated to both Essex County Bowls and Southend & District Bowls Associations. The Club prospered as a result and soon built up an impressive list of both league games and friendlies as well as Club and individual’s competitions.

With the disposal by the Company of the Nevendon sports ground in 1984, the Bowls Club was homeless for a year, playing all away fixtures, before moving to the Basildon Council green at Whitmore Park, in 1986.

After many years at Whitmore Park the club moved to Gloucester Park for the 2024 season due to the council closing the green.
