Welcome to Carreras Bowls Club

The first bowling green was accordingly at the Stanmore club ground, where the Bowls Club continued up to the outbreak of the War and picked up again after the War.

Carreras Bowls Club moved in the early 1960s to the new Carreras sports ground at Nevendon, Basildon as cigarette production was transferred to a new factory in Basildon. By 1978 the Club had joined the Basildon & District Lawn Bowls Association and also had became affiliated to both Essex County Bowls and Southend & District Bowls Associations. The Club prospered as a result and soon built up an impressive list of both league games and friendlies as well as Club and individual’s competitions.

After many years at Whitmore Park the club moved to Gloucester Park for the 2024 season due to the council closing the green.

President's Day 2024

In the last 50 years the club has had five presidents, the latest one being Ray Wells who has been Secretary and Treasurer over many years, he was voted Life Member at the 2023 Annual General Meeting.

Following the 2025 Annual General Meeting Dean Peters was voted in as Club Captain and Sandra Cavanagh was voted in a Ladies Captain. Thank you to both Chris Morris and Margaret Parratt for their hard work over the nine years they held the positions of Club Captain and Ladies Captain.
